The Israel-Palestine conflict is a long-standing
and complex conflict that has far-reaching consequences for countries across
the Middle East. The dispute, decades in the brewing, of a country that forges
its politics at home and emboldens instability across Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, and Syria.
An analysis of Jordan on the matter, where many Palestinian refugees live, stated domestic politics are sensitive to trends in the conflict. An escalation, which initiates protests imposes pressure on Jordan's policies and poses a threat to its scarce resources. Lebanon has its challenges, which are exacerbated by conflicts —particularly as home to Palestinian refugee camps and Hezbollah. Political and economic woes in Lebanon create a cascading effect during conflicts when tensions rise and the threat of spillover violence is high.
The most important mediator between these two
parties remains Egypt, which borders both Israel and Gaza. Moreover, conflagration
in Gaza is sure to heighten Egyptian fears about security, especially in the
north of the Sinai Peninsula, where insurgents might take advantage of chaos
next door. Cairo: Egypt's rulers are also under intensifying public pressure to
take a firmer stand on behalf of the Palestinians.
Historically
Syria’s participation has been bound to the conflict and flashpoint of the
Golan Heights. Although the civil war inside Syria has turned its attention
elsewhere, any drastic change regarding the Israel-Palestine cause could
throw it back into turmoil.
Apart
from direct consequences, the fresh conflict also generates anti-Israel vitriol
throughout the region, negatively affecting extremist narratives while making
this broader peace process even worse.
